Irena Sendler, leader of the Children's Section of "Żegota", saved the lives of 2,500 Jewish children by pretending to be a nurse in the ghetto. As a baby, Elżbieta Ficowska had been smuggled out of the ghetto in a wooden box on a cart filled with bricks. All she had with her was a silver spoon with her name and birthdate engraved.
