Polish Filmmakers in Helsinki

27.01.2010

This year's DocPoint documentary film festival in Helsinki puts a special emphasis on Polish filmmaking. Each day of the festival brings an opportunity to view Polish films and discuss Polish cinema.

Two prominent documentary filmmakers are special guests at this year's DocPoint: Nicolas Phillibert from France, and Marcel Łoziński from Poland. The festival will also screen an extensive retrospective of Łoziński's films. The audiences in Helsinki will have two whole days to become acquainted with his works, but also learn something about the man behind the camera during Thursday's Master Class. The festival will screen Łoziński's most acclaimed films from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, up to Poste Restante - recent winner of the European Film Award.

This year's DocPoint festival will also feature a wider retrospective of new Polish documentary films, organized in co-operation with the Krakow Film Foundation. Films screened in this section include: Hear My Cry (Usłyszcie mój krzyk) by Maciej Drygas; Our Street (Nasza ulica) by Marcin Latałło; The Second Hand Bookstore (Antykwariat) and Observe the Sabbath and Keep It Holy (Pamiętaj, abyś dzień święty święcił), both by Maciej Cuske; The Clinic (Klinika) and The Lucky Ones (Szczęściarze), both by Tomasz Wolski; Chemo (Chemia) by Paweł Łoziński; Mother (Matka) by Jakub Piątek, and Sentenced for Life (Wyrok na życie) by Marcin Koszałka. The last four of the mentioned filmmakers will visit the Helsinki event to talk about their works at "Meet the Directors" seminars.

The festival will end on 31 January. Further details are available at www.docpoint.info.
