The Film Fund
The regional film fund will be launched in early 2009. The project was developed by regional authorities in cooperation with municipal authorities of Koszalin and Szczecin. Apart from the film fund, regional authorities plan to establish a Pomeranian Film Institute to coordinate and support all film activities in the region. Plans for a film commission and locations archive in Szczecin and Koszalin are also under way. The regional film fund is to coproduce one to two features and three to five documentaries per year.

Budget
The budget of the Pomeranian Film Institute is set at 800,000 PLN (208,000 EUR), of which 500,000 PLN (130,000) are funds allocated to the film fund. The regional authorities see this budget as a starting point that will gradually be increased.

Entry Conditions
The film fund was established to support the production of feature and documentary films dealing with subject matter related to the region, its history, culture and society. Projects will be chosen from submitted applications by a 5-member commission. Applicant projects will preferably deal with the field of Polish-German relations, including projects by German filmmakers and co-financed by transnational cooperation funds. Among feature film, preference is given to first- and second-time directors.

Pomerania
The region lies in northwestern Poland, bordering on the Baltic Sea and on Germany in the west. The picturesque landscapes of the region have appealed to filmmakers from around the world. Szczecin was featured in Lars von Trier’s Europa, while Dąbie lake and the Slavonic and Viking Heritage Centre could be seen in a project of The History Channel. Pomerania is also often a setting for sequels of popular Polish films. It is to be the setting for future adventures of Wielki Szu by Sylwester Chęciński and Rejs by Marek Piwowski.

Landscape
The region and its two national parks and seven landscape parks are home to many sandy beaches, clear lakes and forests rich in flora and fauna. The Wolin National Park is known for its 15-kilometre long cliffs. Remains of prehistoric settlements can also be found in the park, as well as relicts of World War II, including trenches, bunkers and V-3 launch pods.

Cities and Sites
The region has 62 cities, the largest of which are Szczecin, Koszalin, Stargard Szczeciński, Kołobrzeg and Świnoujście. The last of these towns is Poland’s only city located on tens of islands and one of Poland’s largest sea ports.

Szczecin is home to a number of 13th to 18th century buildings, the most prominent of which are the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes, the remains of town fortifications, Gothic churches and storage houses, as well as Baroque palaces. Several sites in Koszalin are part of the European Route of Brick Gothic.

Many towns in the region have maintained their Medieval town structure with a pfarr church, 13th century granite churches and monasteries and a number of churches dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries. One town worth mentioning is Stargard Szczeciński – a beautiful Medieval structure. Local attractions include the archeological site of Manowo – Gothic barrows from the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D. and ancient Slavonic settlements in Mielno.

The region is also home to Międzyzdroje – a seaside resort known for its 300-metre long pier and Promenade of the Stars – a replica of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, with handprints of prominent Polish film stars.
