All of the above mentioned regional film funds have been established over the past two years. This means that the very young tradition of regional support for film production is developing rapidly. There are many regions in Poland where such endeavours can still be established or are already being implemented.

Regional Film Funds
New regional film funds will be established in the regions of Mazovia and Podlasie. However, the most advanced plans are under way in the city of Lublin. The regional film fund in this city was established in 2010. In 2009 the municipal authorities granted 300,000 PLN (78,000 EUR) to supporting film production. The spring of 2009 brought the launch of a competition for documentary film projects related to the 440th anniversary of the Union of Lublin. There are also plans for selecting a feature film script that will help enhance the city’s image. Issues most related to the city’s roots and its present identity include multiculturalism, religious tolerance, the grandness of the Jagiellonian period, Renaissance art and literature, as well as Jewish tradition.

Landscape
Areas not covered in previous chapters are home to over half of Poland’s national parks. While it’s difficult to draw comparison among them, certainly one worth mentioning is the Słowiński National Park – Europe’s largest area of mobile sand dunes. The wetlands of the Biebrza river form an interesting site –  one of Europe’s largest virgin wildlife preserves. The Biebrza river is Europe’s only river to have maintained its original natural character in its entirety. Another area worth mentioning is Białowieża – the forest complex that is the only remaining area of the primeval forests of European lowlands. This area, located in northeastern Poland and Belarus, covers an area of over 150,000 hectares, of which 62,000 hectares are in Poland.

Cities and Sites
Cities not mentioned in previous chapters include Warsaw, with its Royal Castle, palace in Wilanów, palace and park in Łazienki, Old Town, townhouses, fortifications, churches, monasteries, the Citadel and the main street of Krakowskie Przedmieście.

Other interesting cities include Toruń, Lublin, Sandomierz, Kazimierz and Zamość. They have an abundance of castles, ancient storage houses, townhouses, fortifications and city gates.

The largest castle in Poland is located in Malbork – the medieval capital of the Teutonic knights order and Europe’s largest Gothic fortress. The castle complex consists of three castles and covers an area of over 20 hectares. The High Castle has four wings and magnificent double-level galleries. The western wing is adjacent to one of the most unique examples of Gothic architecture.

One of the most unique palaces in Poland is located in Moszna. This picturesque edifice has 365 rooms and 99 towers.
Poland is known for its rich selection of wooden architecture – Catholic and Orthodox churches, manor houses and village huts. Some of the most unique examples are to be found in the ancient village of Biskupin, which today houses the reconstructed village walls, gates and streets. The Hel peninsula is home to historic fishing huts. The largest heritage parks are to be found in Olsztynek, Sierpc, Sanok and Kluki.
